Hurricane Florence Update #3
9/12/18 9:00 AM
Hurricane Warning, State of Emergency, and Mandatory Evacuation in Effect
The Mandatory Evacuation order continues to be in effect for the Entire Outer Banks and now a Hurricane Warning is in effect for areas south of Duck. A Tropical Storm warning is in effect for areas north of Duck. This means the winds and effects of that level of a storm are likely to be in place within 48 hours.
The National Weather service indicates storm effects are expected to arrive on Thursday and may continue through Saturday night.
Access to the Outer Banks will be restricted beginning at 7:00 PM on Wednesday.
The majority of guests and residents have evacuated the area and most businesses have closed and will remain closed until the storm passes. Garbage collection, and most public services have been suspended until the storm passes.
Guests that were evacuated from the storm that purchased travel insurance are encouraged to contact Red Sky Travel Insurance visit their websites at www.trippreserver.com
Guest that are due to arrive this weeks should continue to monitor travel conditions here, but not plan on arriving on time if you have a check in scheduled for Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Due to the travel restrictions that will be put in place today you will not be admitted onto the Outer Banks.
Even though the storm’s predicted path made a major change overnight and it now appears that the impact of the storm will be felt even further south of the Outer Banks than originally projected, and impacts to our area may be less than anticipated. There is also the possibility of another shift in the storm as it is still some 500 miles from the coast. A slight change in course could still have direct impact on our area.
Outer Banks Blue will be open today for business as usual, but we are operating with a skeleton staff as many of our employees have chosen to evacuate the area. We may be forced to be closed beginning tomorrow morning.
We will provide another update at 10:00 AM on Thursday morning.
All the best from the beach!
