Hurricane Dorian Update #1 10:00 AM 9/3/19

Mandatory Evacuation order for Dare County

Dorian

The Dare County Control Group has issued a Mandatory Evacuation order for Visitors beginning at noon today (9/3/19). Residents are under a mandatory evacuation order beginning at 6:00 AM tomorrow (9/4/19).

This includes all areas of Dare County including the towns of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head,  Manteo and all unincorporated areas including Hatteras Island, Roanoke Island and the Dare mainland.

There is no evacuation order for Currituck County at this time. This includes areas such as Pine Island, Currituck Club, Ocean Sands, Whalehead Beach and other Corolla areas. Visitors should watch for this to possibly change as the storm moves closer to the Outer Banks. It is expected that an evacuation order may be ordered for Corolla.

The state of emergency includes restrictions on ocean swimming due to dangerous surf conditions and strong rip currents along the beaches. Everyone must stay out of the water as it is unsafe for even the most experienced swimmers.

Arriving guests should check this page on a regular basis for updates before coming to the Outer Banks. Access to the area may be limited once the storm nears.

Further updates will be placed here on a regular basis. Thank you in advance for your cooperation during this exceptional situation.
