Crabs!: Memory Monday August 7, 2017.

We greet you on this fabulous Monday giving thanks for a great day on the Outer Banks with full electric power, and a beach bustling with happy vacationers.   Although the northern Outer Banks was largely unaffected by the power outage that cripled Hatteras Island and Ocracoke last week, we were empathetic to our neighbors to the south that were effectively out of business for a week.   We are all back to normal now, and this week's Memory Monday photo gives us an image of one of the great things to do as a family during a vacation to the Outer Banks - Pick crabs! The Outer Banks is known as one of the world's best spots to catch blue crabs.  They literally are crawling all over the sounds of our area, and whether you go to the fresh water side of the Outer Banks to catch them yourself, or you go to a seafood store and let them do the hard work in catching the crabs - there is nothing better than eating freshly steamed crabs.    Put a little vinegar in the pot, some old bay seasoning and throw the crabs into the mix and wait till they turn red.  Then it is time to get your crab picking items and get ready for a great meal!Special thanks to Diane McMullen of Manassas, Virginia who sent in this week's Memory Monday photo after staying with Outer Banks Blue in July in the Nags Head vacation rental "Looney Dunes."Wow.  What a haul! Thanks Diane for sharing your crab feast, and sending in your memory Monday photos.  We look forward to serving you and your family again soon. All the best from the beach!
