No snow, but we do have a Snowy Owl!

As our neighbors to the north are currently drenched in snow, we have no snow to report here on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  However, recent sightings of a Snowy Owl have birders and nature enthusiasts excited about its appearance.  It has been a number of years since the last sighting of this beautiful bird along the coast of North Carolina.  They have usually not traveled this far south, so there is no wonder the excitement level is high for those who track this bird! Frisco Pier to Be Torn Down

We were greeted by news on Saturday morning that the National Park Service expects to remove the remnants of The Frisco Fishing Pier.

The iconic, but extremely battered pier officially known as “The Cape Hatteras Fishing Pier” has been closed for more than 5 years (except for a brief period in 2010) due to years of exposure to storms. READ MORE
