When you are checking out of your vacation home and moving in the direction of the bridge to head home, please feel free to stop by our office and leave any of your non-perishable items taking up too much space on the way home. We will donate these items to the Food Pantry and the food will be dispersed to families in need all over the state of North Carolina.Outer Banks Blue aids in local Food Bank donations several times a year- through holidays & damage from storms to support our local families in need. |

It is a rainy Monday here on the Outer Banks and we need something to brighten our day. So today’s Memory Monday photo submission comes to us from Kasey Woodrum who sent along this picture of her daughter flying a kite on the beach on Hatteras Island earlier this year.

One of the best things to do on the Outer Banks is to relax! What is more relaxing than the ocean breeze, your favorite book or lap top and a comfortable hammock to escape ? You can swing the day away while you let your thoughts drift somewhere else for awhile.

There is just something about summer time…flowers blossom, kids are finished with school work, routines change, gardens grow, families spend more time outdoors, cook outs, baseball games, pool parties…what I am missing?

Memorial Day Remembrance
It is a safe bet that most of us would rather lounge on the beach, fire up the grill in the back yard or enjoy a baseball game than dwell on the somber origins of Memorial Day. Living on the Outer Banks, with one of the largest concentrations of military in the world within 70 miles in Norfolk, VA, we locals constantly are reminded of the sacrifices of war as the evening news seems all too filled with reports of casualties overseas.

Its Thursday morning here in Kitty Hawk on the Outer Banks, and the rumble of heavy machinery and the beeps of those machines as they shift to reverse are constant in the area. The N.C. Dept. of Transportation has responded to the effects of Hurricane Sandy with unprecedented manpower and machinery to clear the area of the storm.
