This is the second year we have rented this house. The house itself is very clean, roomy, and in a perfect location. It looks like the owner put down new "trex" decking since last year - very nice. Our only big complaint is the bed situation. First, the first level bedroom does NOT have a queen bed as advertised. It is a full single bed. We could not put a couple in that room because of it (as we had initially planned). Be aware that you can only put one person in that room comfortably. Secondly most of the beds have very old, worn out, uncomfortable mattresses. If we decide to rent again next year, we have discussed bringing mattress toppers with us (at least for us older folks). We greatly enjoyed the excellent hot tub, the awesome views - especially from the raised cupola room - a perfect place for morning coffee. Overall we had a great week.

We've made the owner aware and the owner has decided to replace all of the mattresses in the property for 2020. For the first level bedroom being a full instead of a queen, we have gone to measure it and make sure, because the owner said if it turned out to be full instead of a queen he would replace it, but we measures it and it is 60 inches wide by 80 inches long, which is the size of a queen mattress. "This was our first time at the Stillwater and our first time in Corolla in about 20 years. The house was located very well - oceanside, with nice peekaboo ocean views from the top deck - and right next to a public beach access (for minimal slogging of beach items). We were huge fans of the location. Initial impressions when you drive up are very favorable. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils and pots, pans and dishes, and although we did have a faulty toaster, it was immediately replaced when we contacted Outer Banks Blue. The house is "builder grade" in almost every aspect - the bathrooms in particular is where this was noticeable, especially the jack and jill one. That one in particular was dark and worn. Nothing felt upgraded, luxury, or plush. There were not enough places to hang wt towels and suits - a major pet peeve of mine in a beach house. The satellite chairs (in the sunroom) were beat up and so were the ottomans in the great room. The TV was small-ish but adequate. The dryer turns off when it feels like it, so it took AGES to dry towels (which of course you would want to wash and dry maybe halfway through the week). It was fine, but frustrating to have to run inside from the pool to check on it every hour or so. But the major issue for our family was the pool. Don't get me wrong - we LOVED the pool. It's a great size and was clean and the lounge chairs were comfy and newish and we spent way more time in there than the beach - BUT the bottom of the pool was such rough concrete that everyone had suffered an injury by the end of the week - like skinning your knee on concrete type of injury - just by being in the pool. Kids and adults alike. Not awesome. If someone was walking in the kitchen, it was VERY loud on the ceiling in the bedrooms right underneath. And our last constructive criticism was the internet: a.) it's unsecured, b.) it was spotty at best. This was particularly difficult on a few family members who unfortunately had to work for a few hours some days: we ended up using hotspots on our smartphones. What we liked about the house: overall location was amazing. The size of the house was generous and it did provide everything we needed - pool, outdoor shower, pool table, plenty of parking, bball hoop, large table for family dinners, games and books (great feature!) and a good great room for hanging out. The deck chairs on the front deck were obviously new, brightly colored, very beachy. We loved hanging out on them during the day or at dusk to just enjoy the view. Overall, we had a great stay and would recommend to families who want a basic house in a great location that can accommodate a large family."

We have been with Outer Banks Blue for several years and love their rentals. We stayed at Stillwater in Corolla for the first time this year. We loved it so much we booked it while we were on vacation there in September for next year. The only thing that needs to be taken care of NOW is the outdoor grill. There were holes in the bottom of grill and charcoal would fall though onto the ground. Need a gas grill to make this house the perfect beach house in Corolla.

Summer Vacation 2015

"I guess since this is the 4th year we have stayed at Stillwater I don't really need to say much at all except that we have already reserved it for next year too. Obviously, we had a wonderful time!!!!"
