A shop specializing in the trade of handmade, local artisanal creations, Tar Heel Trading Company offers everything from pottery to glassware to jewelry to home décor and wood carvings!

Tar Heel Trading Company was founded in 1979 by Mary Ames with the aim of bringing fine handcrafted items to the renowned Outer Banks of North Carolina. Inspired by Mary’s vision to highlight artists from the “Tar Heel” state, the company took on its distinctive name. The first store opened in Sea Holly Square, Kill Devil Hills, and over the years, has been housed at several locations across the Outer Banks and Key West, Florida.

In 1999, after 14 years of working closely with Mary, Judy Joyce acquired the company. In 2023, ownership transitioned to Liz and Jamie McBain. Together with their family and dedicated staff, they continue to uphold the tradition of meticulous attention to detail, quality, and exceptional customer service that has distinguished Tar Heel Trading Company since its founding.

The Tar Heel Trading Company offers complementary 1-on-1 private virtual shopping with Liz McBain. Using the video call service Zoom, she'll work with you for up to 20 minutes at a time to hand select your items and the shop will ship them to you at home!

Fishbones Raw Bar & Restaurant
Since 1995, Fishbones Raw Bar and Restaurant has been Duck, NC's original raw bar and Caribbean-inspired eatery. Their innovative menu features Caribbean-style cuisine paired with fresh Outer Banks seafood.

The Spice & Tea Exchange is, as the name implies, a spice, herb, and tea shop with several locations all across the country. Founded in 2008 by Amy Freeman and Penny Rehling, the Spice & Tea Exchange

Their website offers over 270 different recipes for appetizers, dips, soups, desserts, side dishes, and more for customers to peruse, and has the appropriate spices and herbs linked in each recipe, so you don't have to track down the spices on the website on your own.
